Why One-on-One?

Rehabilitation is a personal process. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or you’re dealing with a chronic or complex condition, your body and situation are unique. Our physiotherapists take time to get to know and understand more than just your pain. We focus on understanding you as a whole.

We find that 1-on-1 sessions allow us to provide better service and connection during your appointment. Rather than using passive machines or supervising a group session, we can take the time to truly understand what your motivations are and how your injury or condition is holding you back.

This can also help us recognize if another One to One service might be beneficial in helping you achieve your goals.

A Unique Approach to Pain Relief

Physiotherapy at One to One exists within a larger ecosystem of collaborative wellness. We work together with other experienced professionals in the wellness field and continue to hone our skills through the most recent evidence-based practices and techniques. Our approach focuses on manual physiotherapy, which emphasizes on hands-on, manual techniques that positively affect the muscles, joints, and nerves to decrease pain and improve mobility, strength, and function.

Our team believes in the power of education, strength training, manual therapy, and self-management. We bring this mindset to our rehabilitation plans to use all the resources available to help you reach your goals. We blend this approach with gentle, focused activities aimed at enhancing your overall well-being, helping you see results.

At One to One, we prioritize patient education as a key component of the healing process. During your sessions, your physiotherapist will take time to help you understand your condition and provide proven strategies to help you manage or alleviate your pain.

Our physiotherapists meet you where you are, whether you’re at the very beginning of healing from an injury or years into a pain relief journey. We can also meet you physically at our location in Halifax or virtually anywhere in Atlantic Canada, depending on your needs and preferences.

What Is the Difference Between Manual Physiotherapy and Traditional Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a treatment to restore and maintain your mobility, function, and wellbeing. It can involve physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and pain reduction.

At One to One Wellness, we provide a manual physiotherapy approach to treatment. Manual physiotherapy uses hands-on, manual techniques that positively affect the muscles, joints, and nerves of your body in order to decrease pain and improve mobility, strength, and function. Additionally, manual physiotherapy focuses on identifying and targeting the underlying cause of pain for effective treatment.

Traditional physiotherapy, on the other hand, uses the application of various modalities, such as heat, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation (such as TENS or IFC machines), along with supervised exercise and postural re-education.

Virtual Physiotherapy

Virtual physiotherapy allows you to work on rehabilitating your body without having to be in person with your physiotherapist. All you need is access to a laptop or tablet with a microphone, camera, and a steady internet connection.

These types of sessions can be used for education, exercise review, and exercise prescription purposes. It is an easy way to continue your health and wellness goals if attending your appointments at One to One Wellness is proving to be difficult.

Virtual physiotherapy is provided via Jane App. We will ask you to share your contact information, and your physiotherapist will contact you at your scheduled appointment time.

During the session, your physiotherapist will be able to discuss your rehabilitation program, educate you, observe your movement, and prescribe exercises. They can also determine if progressions are recommended.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and be in a space where you can move with ease.

Virtual physiotherapy appointments may include:

  • Sharing a detailed history: Your physiotherapist will ask your about your pain experience and how it’s impacting your life.
  • A mobility assessment: Your physiotherapist will lead you through an assessment to help determine affected structures and movements, which will also help guide the physiotherapist in designing your personalized program.
  • Pain neuroscience education: Your physiotherapist can share information about the neuroscience of pain and how it relates to your situation.
  • Home strengthening program: Your physiotherapist can design a strengthening program safe for you to complete at home.
  • Home mobility program: Your physiotherapist can help you learn how to assess your own body and to keep your nervous system happy and moving.
  • Pacing and energy management practices: Your physiotherapist can help you plan your day to prevent overloading your body and causing a flare up.
  • Goal setting: You and your physiotherapist can work together to set goals to return to the things you love.

Virtual physiotherapy is billed as a regular physiotherapy session. The cost of your session can be offset by private health insurance if you’re covered.

We require a valid credit card on file before your scheduled appointment.

Conditions Commonly Treated Through Physiotherapy

Depending on your condition, we may recommend physiotherapy independently or in conjunction with another service. As well, some patients may find benefits by starting with another practitioner before adding physiotherapy to their treatment plan. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend booking a free screening with our team.

Some of the conditions we commonly treat through physiotherapy include:
