Supporting Your Pain Management Journey

Our medical practitioners take a comprehensive look at your physical and mental health to manage your pain holistically. This might include monitoring your current treatments, adjusting medications, or helping you navigate complex medical systems.

Both our nurse practitioner and our physician work closely with other wellness professionals in our clinic to provide seamless coordination of care, helping you regain control over your health and well-being.

What Does a Nurse Practitioner Do?

In a private pain management setting, our nurse practitioner assesses and manages complex health needs. This includes reviewing your medical history, prescribing medications, and collaborating with the team to create an effective, personalized treatment plan.

Whether you are struggling with chronic pain, managing a long-term condition, or facing difficulties due to trauma, we can provide you with the medical support needed to address these challenges head-on.

Our experienced nurse practitioner also offers personalized primary care, helping you take charge of your health.

Virtual Appointments with a Nurse Practitioner

To help make your treatment and medical care as accessible as possible, we also offer virtual appointments with our nurse practitioner. Whether you’re living outside of the Halifax area or simply find commuting difficult, our virtual services allow you to receive the support you need from the comfort of your own home.

Virtual appointments are provided via Jane App or telephone. We will ask you to share your contact information, and your nurse practitioner will contact you at your scheduled appointment time.

What Can I See a Nurse Practitioner For?

Beyond the management of complex and chronic health conditions, our nurse practitioner also sees patients in a primary health care capacity. This includes:

  • Diagnosing and treating health issues, such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other ongoing health conditions.
  • Ordering and interpreting tests, including blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs.
  • Prescribing medications.
  • Performing exams and procedures, such as pap tests, prostate exams, and immunizations.
  • Providing health screening clinics, such as well-baby, well-women, and well-men.
  • Teaching you how to manage an ongoing health condition and offer ways to lead a healthy life.
  • Focusing on how your physical and mental health affects your life and family.
  • Referring you to a specialist or other health care provider if needed.

What Our Medical Practitioners Do for Chronic Pain

Our medical practitioners can assess, diagnose, and help manage chronic pain. This includes taking a detailed history, performing physical exams, ordering tests (labs or imaging), and making a working diagnosis.

Additionally, both our physician and nurse practitioner can prescribe medications, including non-opioid pain relievers, nerve pain medications, muscle relaxants, and others. Our medical practitioners may also suggest non-medication options for pain management, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, exercise programs, mindfulness, stress management, and complementary therapies like acupuncture and massage.

Beyond pain management, our medical practitioners can provide referrals to specialists such as neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, multidisciplinary pain clinics, and more. They also provide follow-up care to track the treatment effectiveness and make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed.
