Hypertension

A person measuring their blood pressure for hypertension.

Hypertension is a term for high blood pressure, generally greater than a systolic blood pressure of 140 and a diastolic blood pressure of 90. When there is too much pressure in your blood vessels, this can cause a variety of health issues, and individuals with hypertension often have comorbidities such as diabetes and dyslipidemia. An important part of managing hypertension is good nutrition. Some dietary strategies for lowering blood pressure include increasing the potassium and lowering the sodium in your diet, as well as decreasing your alcohol intake.
